Khar, Mumbai

Khar is a suburb of Mumbai, north of Bandra and south of Santa Cruz (Mumbai). For the suburb's corresponding railway station see Khar Road.

The suburb of Khar also has the fishermen folk area Danda, also known as KharDanda. The other part of Khar is mostly a calm residential area. Due the proximity of Bandra, Khar has started to grow in terms of offices, shops and commercial places.

The 'khar' comes from Marathi word khara which means salty, as most of the Khar, Bandra area was nothing but marsh lands of Salty sea water. Today Khar is no longer a marsh but a very up market area, which plays host to celebrities from Bollywood, international designer brands and great eating joints.
