Kings Park Stadium
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kings Park Stadium, also known for sponsorship reasons as ABSA Stadium, is a stadium in Durban, South Africa, which was originally built in 1891 and extensively renovated in 1990. It has a capacity of 52,000 and is used for both rugby union and football (soccer). The stadium currently hosts the following teams:
- The Sharks in the Southern Hemisphere Super 14 rugby competition
- The Natal Sharks, the slightly adapted name given to the above rugby team when they compete in South Africa's main domestic rugby competition, the Currie Cup
- The Golden Arrows in the Premier Soccer League
- The Amazulu in the Premier Soccer League for important matches
Kings Park will no longer be a venue for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, as a new 75,000 seater stadium is being constructed where the adjacent Kings Park Football Stadium stood.
