From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The National Sports Complex or Kompleks Sukan Negara in Malaysia is the largest sports complex in the country. It is located in Bukit Jalil, 20 km south of Kuala Lumpur. Described as the "sports complex in a park", it is the only one of its kind in the country or region when it was fully developed.

The intention to build the sports complex began in 1989 when Malaysia wanted to become host of Commonwealth Games in 1998. The Bukit Jalil Estate was a suitable site to build this complex. Although Malaysia was the host of the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, the construction started in 1992. Construction was led by the Ministry of Youth and Sports while the main contractor was United Engineers Malaysia Berhad (UEM). The complex was completed in 1998 and was officially opened on 11 July 1998 by Malaysian Prime Minister that time Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad.

Kompleks Sukan Negara is easily accessed via Shah Alam Expressway, Puchong-Sungai Besi Highway and Kuala Lumpur-Seremban Expressway. It is also served by a rapid transit station.
