Krishnagiri District is a district of Tamil Nadu state in southern India. The city of Krishnagiri is the district headquarters.

Krishnagiri district was previously a part of the Dharmapuri District with Krishnagiri as one of the Taluks till 2004, when it was bifurcated.
Krishnagiri district covers an area of 5143 km², and a population of 695,524.[1]. It is bordered on the west and north by Karnataka, on the east by Vellore District, and on the south by Dharmapuri district. It has a very mountainous terrain and flatlands.
Krishnagiri district comprises five taluks.

It is only 11.36% urbanised as per Census 2001, while Tamil Nadu state is the most urbanized sate in India.
Krishnagiri district is famous for Mangoes. Hosur, one of the most industrialized places in the state is located in this district.
