Krishnapura

Krishnapura is small town, 3 km from Surathkal, Mangalore, Karnataka, India. Many residents of this place were relocated from Panambur, when the New Mangalore Port Trust happened. It also houses the Krishnapura Matha (Monastery), one of the ashta (eight ) matha's founded by Dvaita philosopher Shri Madhvacharya. The rehabitation took place in 1970's. The Krishnapura matha existed much before. The Mukhyaprana (Hanuman) god inside the matha is considered very sacred.The Krishnapura Matha was built several centuries ago and has marvelous wooden carving. The building is supported by gigantic wooden pillars. It is rare to found such intricate wood carving of such large scale in today's world. The building shows mastery and skills of our ancestors.

After 1969 the families situated at Baikampady displaced to Krishnapura and got house sites 12.5 cents each. Krishnapura consists of 9 blocks and the 7th block is the biggest of all blocks where Muslim population is more. A grand Mosque called the BADRIYA JUMMA MASJID was built in 1970 wherein about 5000 people can pray. Under this Masjid, residents of this area started an English medium school called the AL BADRIYA ENGLISH MEDIUM HIGH SCHOOL. About 900 students are getting education in this school.
