In 2000, Melanie Thornton left the group to pursue a solo career. She was replaced by Natascha Wright and a single was released entitled All I Want in April of the same year. Poor sales resulted, and Farian decided to put the group to rest. Meanwhile, Melanie Thornton was achieving momentous popularity with a single called Love How You Love Me and then with Wonderful Dream (Holidays Are Coming), recorded for a Coca Cola Christmas commercial.
While promoting her album Ready To Fly, which was released in the month of April but had a new version coming out in a few weeks, Thornton was killed in a plane crash near Zurich on November 24, 2001. Thornton's album sold remarkably well, before and after her death.
In April 2002, Farian compiled songs from Thornton's debut album of the year prior along with selections from the first and second La Bouche albums into a best of collection entitled The Best of La Bouche [feat. Melanie Thornton].
In November 2002, one year following Thornton's death, La Bouche producer Farian prepared a tribute single entitled "In Your Life". The song was an unreleased B-side from Thornton's debut album. Farian combined vocals for the track recorded prior to Thornton's death and had Kayo Shekoni from Le Click provide additional vocals to complete the mix. The single was released worldwide in 2002 and in the US in 2003. It peaked at #6 in the U.S. billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart and also made the Top 10 on Electronic/Dance format radio. Alongside Justin Timberlake. Kayo Shekoni and Lane McCray did club appearances and performed alongside Coolio and Jennifer Lopez. The record company contracted for the US release, "Logic Records", closed shortly after the release.
La Bouche continue to tour, but there are no plans for a third album or new singles the time being.
