The name Lazarus can refer to a number of people and things. It is most commonly known as the name of the Biblical Lazarus of Bethany, raised from the dead in the New Testament. The derivation of the name itself is from Greek Lazaros, which was taken from the Aramaic Lazar, which in turn was a form of the Hebrew name Eleazar.

Lazarus may refer to:

  • Lazarus taxon, a taxon that disappears from one or more periods of the fossil record, only to appear again later, thus giving the impression of life coming back from the dead.
  • Lazarus effect, the phenomenon of seeing an unusable (dead) semiconductor detector fix itself (comes back to life) at cryogenic temperatures.
  • Lazarus phenomenon, the unexpected return of spontaneous circulation after resuscitation has been abandoned.

  • Lazarus Churchyard, an immortal character in the comic series of the same name
  • Lazarus Pit, a device in the Batman comics that extends the life of its user
