Leonard Rosenman

Leonard Rosenman (born September 7, 1924 in Brooklyn, New York) is an American film, television and concert composer.

Recipient of two Academy Awards: Bound for Glory (1976) for Best Music, Original Song Score and Its Adaptation or Best Adaptation Score; and Barry Lyndon (1975) Best Music, Scoring Original Song Score and/or Adaptation. Recipient of two Emmy Awards: Sybil (1976) for Outstanding Achievement in Music Composition for a Special (Dramatic Underscore); and Friendly Fire (1979) for Outstanding Music Composition for a Limited Series or a Special.

Other well-known scores include the first of the Man Called Horse films A Man Called Horse (1970); second of the Robocop films - RoboCop 2 (1990); the 2nd and 5th of the Planet of the Apes films - Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970) and Battle for the Planet of the Apes (1973); the 4th of the Star Trek film series - Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986); the animated film Lord of the Rings (1978), Fantastic Voyage (1966), East of Eden (1955), The Cobweb (1955), Prophecy (1979) and Rebel Without a Cause (1955).

In his 70's Rosenman was diagnosed with Frontotemporal dementia, a degenerative brain condition with symptoms similar to Alzheimer's disease.
