Contents

The commune of Les Ulis has existed only recently. It was created on February 19, 1977 by detaching territory from the communes of Orsay and Bures-sur-Yvette.

Les Ulis is served by no station of the Paris Métro, RER, or suburban rail network. The closest station to Les Ulis is Bures-sur-Yvette station of the Francilien RER line B. This station is located in the neighboring commune of Bures-sur-Yvette, 1.6 km.(1 mile) from the town center of Les Ulis.

Football player Thierry Henry, who plays on the French national team as well as Arsenal F.C. in England, was born in Les Ulis. Another famous French football player Patrice Evra, who plays for Manchester United in England as well a being capped 5 times on the French national team was also raised in Les Ulis.

French foil fencer Térence Joubert was also born in Les Ulis on April 17, 1982.

The former spokesman of the ecological French party, Stéphane Pocrain, was raised in Les Ulis and was near to be elected at the head of the town's circonsription (with the other towns of Gif-sur-Yvette, Orsay etc...) in 2002.

French supermodel Noémie Lenoir was born in Les Ulis on September 19, 1979 before her family moved to a very quiet life first in Gif-sur-Yvette and then in Versailles where she was discovered and started her career in modeling.

French writer and professor Patrick Lapeyre (author of the awarded L'homme-sœur) was born in Les Ulis as well.

Banlieue towns of the Île de France tend to depend a lot on Paris for administration purposes and other facilities. The centre of Paris is also a haven for several English speaking nationalities and EU expatriates, however in outlying towns such as this one there isn't the network that caters for these groups.

Generally, via the internet, a look on services such as Yahoo Groups can yield a few useful resources with expat groups such as Live in France, English Speakers in France, Paris Sud or Webvivant. All of these can provide much needed advice and friendship to English speaking residents of the Île de France.
