Leusemia

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Leusemia is a Peruvian rock band. The name of the band is a misspelling of the spanish word leucemia (meaning leukemia).

The band was formed in Lima, Peru in 1983 by Daniel F, Kimba Vilis, and Raúl Montáñez. They played simple rock and roll in their early years; because of that they were linked with the punk movement. Leusemia usually shared stage with other rock bands such as Narcosis, Autopsia, Guerrilla Urbana, and Zcuela Cerrada, that constituted the core of the underground Peruvian rock scene of the 1980s.

After the release of the first LP, Daniel F left the band. After some gigs without him the band dissolved.

Kimba Vilis y Raul Montañez kept playing separately. Leo Scoria emigrate to Italy. Daniel F published 11 cassettes between the years 1986 and 1990. Kúrsiles Romanzas, the most famous one, together with Primera Dosis from Narcosis, are probably the most copied cassettes of the underground scene at that time.

After 10 years, in 1995, Daniel F, Kimba Vilis,Leo Scoria and Raul Montañez got together to record the album "A la mierda lo demás, asesinando al mito". In the time Leusemia was absent for the scene, numerous bands were influenced by the music and the attitude of the band, though few of them had seen them live.

Today, Leusemia continues to be one of the most important and influential underground rock bands in Peru, playing regularly in more less the same venues they have been playing for 23 years.
