Lilla Edet is a Swedish municipality in Västra Götaland County, in western Sweden. It was created in 1971. Its seat is located in the town Lilla Edet (pop. 4,500), also the largest town.

The town Lilla Edet is situated on the eastern side of the Göta älv, a main river on the west coast of Sweden. It became known as a halt there. A canal lock system was built there as early as 1607, becoming the first of its kind in Sweden. The commons people had named Lilla Edet as a match for Stora Edet, situated north of Lilla Edet, and today known as Trollhättan. However, the official name for Lilla Edet was for a long time Bergaström.

Today it has an interesting museum with many interesting remainings.
