Railway station

Line 5 is a line of Beijing Subway which is currently under construction. It will be complete by December of 2006 and will be Beijing's first north-south underground railway line.

Construction work on Line 5 got underway in late 2002. The tracks are planned to be laid by January of 2006.

The line will run from Taipingzhuang North (near the northern 5th Ring Road) through to Songjiazhuang in the southern part of Beijing, where it is expected to link up with the Yizhuang Light Rail.

It will run through central Beijing, with parts as central as Dongdan. It will link up with underground lines 1, 2, and 13.

A number of roads around Beijing are being bolted up as construction gets underway. Underground railway stations are now under construction throughout the city.

Line 5 will fully use Yikatong cards.
