Lionel Chalmers

Lionel Chalmers, Jr. (born November 10, 1980 in Albany, New York) is an American basketball player. He last played for the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2005-06 preseason, but was released into free agency before the regular season commenced. Currently he plays for Dinamo Banco di Sardegna Sassari in Italy.

Chalmers played his first three years of high school basketball at Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons in Schenectady, New York. He then transferred to Albany High School for his senior year.

Chalmers was drafted by the Los Angeles Clippers in the second round of the 2004 NBA Draft out of Xavier University, where he played for four years as an undergraduate and later a graduate student. He eventually lead his Xavier team during his senior season to the elite eight in the NCAA Tournament. He was traded to the Timberwolves on August 20th, 2005 with Marko Jaric for Sam Cassell.

He played for the Phoenix Suns summer league team during the summer of 2006 [1] but was not retained by the Suns and is now playing for Dinamo Banco di Sardegna Sassari in the Italian second division.

He played in Greece with AEK Athens BC from November 2005 until February 2006 when he joined TAU Ceramica in Spain [2]. Lionel was waived by the Atlanta Hawks in October 2006, prior to joining his current italian team.
