Canada has adopted the NTSC and ATSC television transmission standards without any alterations. However, some unique local variations exist for DTH television because of transponder design variation in the Anik series of satellites.

  • CBC Television, a national public network owned by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. It broadcasts in English, French and in Aboriginal languages in the territories and northern regions of Québec and Labrador.
  • CTV, a national private network (except for Newfoundland & Labrador and the territories) owned by CTVglobemedia broadcasting in English.
  • Global, a national private network (except for Newfoundland & Labrador and the territories) owned by CanWest Global Communications broadcasting in English.

  • A-Channel, a small market privately owned television system with stations in Ontario and British Columbia. It is owned by CTVglobemedia.
  • CBC North, a publicly owned television system run by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation operating in the territories, northern Quebec and Labrador, airing the complete CBC Television schedule with a few exemptions to local programming.
  • E!, a privately owned television system with stations located in Quebec, Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia. It is owned by CanWest Global Communications.
  • Citytv, a privately owned television system with stations in Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia It is owned by Rogers Communications.
  • CTV Atlantic, a privately owned network of stations airing the complete CTV network schedule within Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island owned by CTVglobemedia.
  • CTV Northern Ontario, a privately owned network of stations airing the complete CTV network schedule within in Northern Ontario owned by CTVglobemedia.
  • Great West Television, a privately owned group of stations affiliated with CBC Television in British Columbia.

  • TQS, a privately owned television system based in Quebec broadcasting in French. TQS is owned by Cogeco and CTVglobemedia.
  • TVA, a privately owned television network, based in Quebec but available across Canada on cable, broadcasting in French. TVA is owned by Quebecor Media Inc.

  • APTN, a broadcast television network with television stations in the 3 territories and cable network carried nationwide on cable and satellite. Programming focuses on Aboriginals. It operates in English, French and various Aboriginal languages.

  • CJON, using the on-air brand NTV - a privately owned television station in Newfoundland & Labrador owned by Newfoundland Broadcasting Company Ltd.
  • CKXT, using the on-air brand SUN TV - a privately owned television station in Toronto owned by Groupe TVA and Sun Media (both divisions of Quebecor Media Inc..

  • CJNT, using the on-air brand CJNT Montréal - a privately owned multicultural television station in Montreal owned by CanWest Global Communications. It is branded as an E! station. It operates in several languages.
  • CHNM, using the on-air brand Channel M - a privately owned multicultural television station in Vancouver owned by Multivan Broadcast Corporation. It operates in several languages.
  • OMNI Television, a group of 4 privately owned multicultural television stations in Ontario & Alberta owned by Rogers Communications.
    • CFMT, using the on-air brand OMNI.1 - European, Latino and Caribbean programming. It operates in several languages in Toronto.
    • CJMT, using the on-air brand OMNI.2 - South-Asian, Oriental and African programming. It operates in several languages in Toronto.
    • CHXC in Calgary, newly licensed in 2007.
    • CHXE in Edmonton, newly licensed in 2007.

  • Crossroads Television System, using the on-air brand CTS, a group of three stations owned by Crossroads Christian Communications
    • CITS - Ontario based religious station licensed to Burlington.
    • CKCS - Alberta based religious station licensed to Calgary.
    • CKES - Alberta based religious station licensed to Edmonton.
  • CJIL, using the on-air brand The Miracle Channel - a privately owned Christian television station in Lethbridge, Alberta owned by The Miracle Channel Association.
  • OMNI Television, a pair of privately owned religious television stations in British Columbia and Manitoba owned by Rogers Communications.
    • CHNU, using the on-air brand CHNU 10 - British Columbia-based religious television station.
    • CIIT, using the on-air brand OMNI.11 - Manitoba-based religious television station.

  • ACCESS, a privately owned educational station in Alberta owned by CHUM Limited. Available over-the-air and on cable throughout the province. (CJAL Edmonton)
  • Knowledge Network, a pubically owned educational station in British Columbia owned by the government of British Columbia. Limited availability over-the-air, but is available on cable throughout the province.
  • SCN, a publicly owned educational station in Saskatchewan owned by the government of Saskatchewan. Not available over-the-air, only available through cable throughout the province.
  • TVO, a publicly owned educational station in Ontario owned by the government of Ontario. Available over-the-air and on cable throughout the province. (CICA Toronto)

  • Canal Savoir, an educational station in Quebec owned by the Université de Montréal. Broadcasts educational programming in Montreal over-the-air, but is available on cable throughout the rest of the province. (CFTU Montreal)
