Hana Inuzuka

Hana Inuzuka (犬塚ハナ Inuzuka Hana?) is the older sister of Kiba Inuzuka. She's an excellent and respected veterinarian. Her canine companions are called the Haimaru Sankyodai (Haimaru Triplets). Hana plays a large role in episode 184, "Inuzuka Kiba's Long Day" where she treats Akamaru's illness.

Trivia

  • Hana means "nose" or "flower". She has a tattoo on her upper right arm which resembles a flower.

Iruka Umino
Iruka Umino

Iruka Umino (うみのイルカ Umino Iruka?) is an instructor at the Konoha ninja academy, characterized by the distinctive scar across his face that he has had since childhood. The name "Umino Iruka" can be taken as "umi no iruka" ("sea dolphin"). Introduced as Naruto Uzumaki's sensei, Iruka and Naruto have a special connection. Iruka relates to Naruto since he also grew up as an orphan and was around Naruto's current age when his parents were killed by the demon fox; he was the first person to acknowledge Naruto as a person of value and show concern for him. Naruto cares deeply for him, and sees Iruka as a father figure. Iruka's favorite food is the same as Naruto's; ramen (ramen from the Ichiraku Ramen Bar in particular); his least favorite food is Maze-gohan (rice with steamed vegetables). His hobby is going to the hot springs and his favorite word is "faith."

Iruka's parents were killed by the demon sealed inside Naruto, but he doesn't blame Naruto for what happened since he knows Naruto is not the demon fox. He is able to empathize with Naruto's need for acknowledgment because after the death of his parents, Iruka admits that he caused trouble and was a prankster to attract attention. Iruka regrets not doing more for Naruto, so he tends to be a little overprotective, often worrying that Naruto is being pushed too hard. As a result, Iruka tends to underestimate Naruto's ability and determination during the many trials he goes through to become a great ninja (though he may also remember Naruto's abysmal grades).

Little is known about Iruka's abilities, but he is clearly proficent in the basic ninjutsu and genjutsu, seen when he administers a pre-test for the Chunin Exam to the rookie nine and the fact that he is an academy instructor. The anime filler episodes show Iruka using a sophisticated trap ninjutsu against Mizuki, as well as detecting Mizuki setting off an exploding tag, so it is possible that he is skilled in this area as well.

In Part II, Iruka looks the same and still has the same ranking, as well as the same job.

Iwashi Tatami
Iwashi Tatami
  • Age: 231
  • Height: 173 cm1
  • Weight: 61.5 kg1
  • Birthday: January 21
  • Blood Type: O1
  • Seiyu: Masato Funaki

During the second phase of the Chunin exam, Iwashi Tatami (たたみイワシ Tatami Iwashi?) showed Anko a surveillance video of Gaara and his teammates entering the tower unscathed.

Much later (during the Sasuke Retrieval arc), he was on a four-man team with Raido Namiashi, Shizune, and Genma Shiranui. After Raido and Genma were defeated and nearly on the verge of death by the Sound Four, Iwashi wanted to chase them down to avenge his comrades, but Shizune held him back.

Izumo Kamizuki
Izumo Kamizuki

Izumo Kamizuki (神月イズモ Kamizuki Izumo?) and his comrade, Kotetsu Hagane, attempted to hold their very own unofficial first test of the Chunin exam. Before the Chunin exam had even begun, Kotetsu used Demonic Illusion: False Surroundings Technique to change the meeting room's number. Later, they tried to persuade the Genin who showed up to quit right there and then. He and Kotetsu were disguised as Genin and claimed to have failed the exams three times in a row. They were Chunin proctors for the first test.

In the anime, after the Fifth Hokage takes office, Izumo and Kotetsu act as her personal assistants, and they seem to act friendly towards Naruto in the anime fillers. They become the gate patrols between in and out of Konoha.

He and Kotetsu made their post-time skip appearance, tagged along with Asuma Sarutobi and Shikamaru Nara on a 4-man team under a new task force, Niju Shotai. During a battle with Akatsuki member Kakuzu, Izumo uses Water Release: Syrup Capture Field to snare Kakuzu while Kotetsu attacks. However, the attack fails and both are attacked by Kakuzu. They are saved by reinforcements in Chapter 327.

  • Height: 167.5 cm1
  • Weight: 52.3 kg1
  • Birthday: July 211
  • Blood Type: B1
  • Seiyu: Tomoyuki Kouno
  • Voice actor: Liam O'Brien

Kotetsu Hagane (はがねコテツ Hagane Kotetsu?) and his comrade, Izumo Kamizuki, attempted to hold their very own unofficial first test of the Chunin exam. Before the Chunin exam had even begun, he used Demonic Illusion: False Surroundings Technique to change the meeting room's number. Later, they tried to persuade the Genin who showed up to quit right there and then. He and Izumo were disguised as Genin and claimed to have failed the exams three times in a row. They were Chunin proctors for the first test. In his Genin disguise, Kotetsu carried two large kunai-style weapons on his back. Normally he wears an ordinary Chunin uniform. He has rectangular markings on his chin and cheeks, and wears a piece of cloth over his nose and cheeks.

In the anime, after the Fifth Hokage takes office, Kotetsu and Izumo act as her personal assistants, and they seem to act friendly with Naruto in the anime filler episodes. He and Izumo are also seen guarding the "Konoha Strict Correctional Facility" in episodes 142 and 143 and are both defeated, along with Asuma, Kurenai, and the rest of the guards, by the prisoners who had escaped, including Mizuki and the Legendary Stupid Brothers.

He and Izumo make their post-time skip appearance in Chapter 318 as members of Niju Shotai. They're grouped together with Asuma Sarutobi and Shikamaru Nara to confront Akatsuki. During a battle with Akatsuki member Kakuzu, Kotetsu uses a scroll to summon an extremely large and ornate weapon resembling a spiked seashell. This weapon, however, never sees any use, since Kakuzu stops him in mid-stride by using his detachable arms to catch both Kotetsu and Izumo by their necks.

Trivia

  • The name "Hagane" means steel or "full metal" (the condition metal is in once it has been properly alloyed for sword making) and "Kotetsu" means "Little steel".
  • There was a Japanese battleship called Kotetsu; both Kotetsu and Izumo share their names with Japanese ships.
  • "Kotetsu" is a common name for a make of katanas in many video games.

Mizuki
Mizuki

Mizuki (ミズキ?) was Iruka's assistant instructor at the ninja academy. After Naruto Uzumaki's most recent failed attempt at passing the academy graduation exams, he devised a plan to steal the Konoha's forbidden scroll using Naruto as a fall guy, intent upon learning the powerful forbidden jutsu within. Mizuki's scheme goes according to plan until Iruka gets to Naruto before he does. A fight then takes place that ultimately ends with Naruto saving Iruka's life by creating hundreds of shadow clones and beating Mizuki to a bloody pulp.

The manga never clarified what became of Mizuki's fate. In the anime, he makes his reappearance in episode 142. After his initial capture, he was imprisoned in the "Konoha Strict Correctional Facility," once called the "Special Ninja Felony Prison," where murderers and other criminal ninja are incarcerated. Although the official investigation report into the theft of the forbidden Scroll of Sealing concluded that he acted alone, it turns out that he was yet another ninja working for Orochimaru. A slip of paper Mizuki attempted to smuggle into the Correctional Facility, thought by the Facility's guards to be doodling, is recognized by Tsunade to be medicinal ingredients similar to materials confiscated from Orochimaru used to perform tests on humans. In addition, Tsunade concludes that Mizuki himself would have little benefit from the sealed scroll, and speculates that Orochimaru is in the background pulling the strings. Her suspicions are confirmed when Mizuki leads a prison revolt and sends the Legendary Stupid Brothers, Fujin and Raijin, to Orochimaru.

Mizuki is shown to have a strange tattoo on his right arm, given to him by Orochimaru in much the same way as Sasuke Uchiha received his cursed seal. It is a blueprint for a device to mix different ingredients into a potion. Mizuki met his former fiancé, Tsubaki, who had pleaded to Mizuki that Naruto was good, and that Orochimaru was evil. He ignored her entirely, eventually knocking her out to keep her quiet. Mizuki raids the Nara medical facility for the ingredients written on the slip of paper, and creates the potion promised to bring him much power. He drinks it, and transforms into a tiger-like man-beast with doubled speed and power. However, Mizuki is yet another victim used by Orochimaru – as Mizuki's powers dissipate quickly upon defeat and accelerate his aging so that he is an angry, shriveled, and powerless old man at the end of the filler arc. Tsunade eventually healed him back to his normal state and interrogated him about the whereabouts of Orochimaru.

Trivia

  • According to the official databook, Mizuki's favorite food is sushi and his least favorite food is ramen, probably the sign of the author's attempt to create a character to ultimately offend Naruto as much as possible. His favorite phrase is "positive thinking".
  • Mizuki is typically a female name, with possible meanings including "water tree" and "beautiful moon", but because it is written in katakana rather than kanji, the meaning of the name is unknown.

Rin
Rin
  • Age: ? (presumed deceased)
  • Height: ?
  • Weight: ?
  • Birthday: November 152
  • Blood Type: A2

Rin (リン?) was a medical ninja and the teammate of Kakashi Hatake and Obito Uchiha under the Fourth Hokage during the Kakashi Gaiden arc. She was a sweet and friendly girl who cared for her teammates. She had intimate feelings for Kakashi, but he ignored her. In turn, Obito had a crush on her, but she ignored him.

When Rin is captured by enemy shinobi from Iwagakure, Obito and Kakashi go to save her, though Kakashi initially wants to continue their mission. Obito eventually persuades him to help save Rin. Later, half of Obito's body is crushed by a rockslide in his attempt to save Kakashi. At Obito's request, Rin implants Obito's remaining Sharingan eye into Kakashi's left eye socket (which had been damaged during a battle.) Kakashi then vows to protect her with his life, at Obito's request.

Her status is currently unknown, but she is presumed dead as Kakashi has told Sasuke that everyone close to him is dead.

Trivia

  • One possible meaning of her name means "cold". More likely, however, Rin is one of the readings of the kanji hayashi, Rin (?) for forest/woods. Usually when used for a girl's name it's written with the kanji for suzu, Rin (?) or a small bell. Other characters from Konoha have names related to trees or leaves (such as Sakura, Shino and many of the supporting character villagers) so it is probably the former meaning -- though the latter does recall the bells used in the training by Sarutobi, the Fourth Hokage, and Kakashi in the series.

Tonbo Tobitake
Tonbo Tobitake

As one of the village's elite Chunin, Tonbo Tobitake (飛竹トンボ Tobitake Tonbo?) assisted in proctoring the first part of the Chunin Exam. When an upstart Genin questioned the proctors' ability to catch the Genin cheating, Tonbo answered him quite ably: without warning, he sent a flying knee into the Genin's stomach, offering his strength as proof and thus contributed to the psychological pressure the test was meant to inflict on the candidates.

Trivia

  • "Tobitake" is formed with the characters 飛 ("fly") and 竹 ("bamboo"). "Tonbo" translates as "dragonfly". Thus, his name roughly means "dragonfly flying in the bamboo" - an appropriate name, given his demonstrated mind's eye ability.

Yoshino Nara
Yoshino Nara

Yoshino Nara (奈良ヨシノ Nara Yoshino?) is the mother of Shikamaru Nara and the wife of Shikaku Nara. Though sometimes bossy and overbearing, she also has a sweet side. She has her husband "whipped", as her son calls it, and both her husband and son are rather scared of her. Shikamaru calls her a 'troublesome woman'.
