The Sopranos, a popular HBO original series, revolving around New Jersey mob boss Tony Soprano and his two families, has had numerous directors and writers during the series run.

Before directing The Sopranos, many of the following directors have roots that can be traced to other programs also produced by Home Box Office and by other television networks. Many directors also have background in independent films. Two cast members Steve Buscemi and Peter Bogdanovich, both with recurring roles on the series can be credited for directing several episodes.

Many of the writers/producers on The Sopranos have written for television prior to the series. Writing team Robin Green & Mitchell Burgess worked with creator, David Chase before on Northern Exposure and The Rockford Files. Cast member, Michael Imperioli joined the writing staff in Season 2 contributing five episodes to the series as of Season 5. Toni Kalem (Angie Bonpensiero) wrote the Season 5 episode ("All Happy Families...").

Robin Green & Mitchell Burgess who have written a majority of the series' episodes announced they would not be returning on the writing staff for Season 6 (they would write at least one episode, "Live Free or Die", the sixth episode of the season) when they will be devoting much time to creating their own project for HBO. To replace them, David Chase has brought on two new writers, Diane Frolov & Andrew Schneider, who are also former writers for Northern Exposure.
