List of World Tag Team Champions (WWE)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This is a chronological list of teams that have been World Tag Team Champions by ring name. The World Tag Team Championship is a professional wrestling tag team title. It is World Wrestling Entertainment's original world tag team championship and is currently exclusive on its Raw brand. There have been a total of 147 recognized individual champions and 103 recognized teams, who have had a combined 162 official reigns.[1]
The championship has been known as:[2]
- WWWF World Tag Team Championship (1971 – 1979)
- WWF World Tag Team Championship/WWF Tag Team Championship (1979 – May 2002)
- WWE Tag Team Championship (May 2002 - October 2002)
- World Tag Team Championship (October 2002 – present)
From 2001 to 2002, WWE also included some of the WWWF United States Tag Team Championship and the WWF International Tag Team Championship's heritage in the title's lineage but has since then reversed that decision.[3][4][1]
