  1. ^ a b c This refers to the one- or two-digit code found at the beginning of standard-issue license plates in the state of Alabama, indicating the issuing county.
  2. ^ Between 1997 and 2002, Madison County added the "80" tag code after vehicle registrations exceeded the amount of available license plate numbers beginning with "47." In 2002 the numbering system was altered to alleviate this problem, and all "80" license plates were reissued with a "47" code.
