This is an incomplete listing. For more exhaustive lists, see the Aircraft Crash Record Office or the Aviation Safety Network. Airlines seem to be remembered by their worst accidents, and in that sense this list presents a good overview, but it is not complete.

  • January 16 - TWA Flight 3 was a DC-3 airplane returning to California. After refueling in Las Vegas, the plane took off on a clear night, and twenty-three minutes later crashed into "Double Up Peak" near the 8,300-foot level of Mount Potosi, 30 miles southwest of Las Vegas. All 22 passengers were killed including actress Carole Lombard and her mother.
