The lists of unrecognized countries enumerates those geo-political entities which lack some form of diplomatic recognition, but wish to be universally recognized as sovereign states. For the list of such entities that existed in the past, see the List of historical unrecognized countries.

There are 192 United Nations (UN) member states, including the People's Republic of China (PRC), Bhutan, Cyprus, and Israel. The Vatican is an observer state. The status of the Serbian province of Kosovo is currently under discussion at both the UN and in talks between the EU/US, and the governments of Serbia and Russia.
