Livonia Mall

Livonia Mall is an enclosed shopping mall located in Livonia, Michigan. The center is located at the corner of 7 Mile Road and Middlebelt Road. The mall features over 50 stores and restaurants, as well as a three-screen movie theater. It is also home to the largest mall-based Sears in the state of Michigan.[1]

The mall opened October 29, 1964[2] with Sears and Kresge as anchors. A movie theater was added a year later. A southern wing with Crowley's was added in 1972, and a northern wing with Mervyn's came in 1981. Kresge closed in the late 1980s with the demise of the chain. Crowley's was converted to Value City in 2000. Mervyn's closed in 2006 and is currently vacant.
Livonia Mall has not been remodeled since it first opened, and sections of it looked very dated. Several storefronts are vacant, and most of the remaining tenants are mom-and-pop stores. Because the mall is aging and losing tenants, plans were made to convert the center to a strip mall in 2006. These plans have stalled, however, as the mall could not strike a deal with the Sears anchor[3]; as of 2007, Livonia Mall is still open as an enclosed mall.
