The community is supposedly a suburb of Philadelphia and is modeled after the actual Chestnut Hill section of the city.[citation needed] It is said to be the county seat of Llantano County and located on the Llantano River, across from Pine Valley, home of All My Children.

Llanview is the home of Llanview University and conglomerate Buchanan Enterprises. The local newspaper is The Banner, which is still run by former Llanview mayor, Victoria Lord Davidson. The Banner 's rival publication is the The Sun, which is run by Viki's half-brother Todd Manning. Llanview Hospital is the area's medical center, and Angel Square is a central area located in East Llanview.

The community's police commissioner is Bo Buchanan, and the District Attorney his ex-wife is Nora Hanen. Llanview resident (and former college student) Marcie McBain — now a teacher at Llanview High School — is a best-selling author and writer in the community.

For the hardcore punk band, see The Banner (band)

The Banner is the chief newspaper in Llanview. The newspaper was founded and owned by Victor Lord, (originally portrayed by Ernest Graves), then passed on to Joe Riley (Lee Patterson). Subsequently, it was passed on to Clint Buchanan (Clint Ritchie), who owned and editorialized the newspaper. Afterwards, Victoria "Viki" Lord Davidson (Erika Slezak), Victor's daughter, inherited the paper. Todd Manning (Trevor St. John) was previously editor-in-chief until Kevin Riley Buchanan (Dan Gauthier) had him removed from the position, and afterward the paper reverted to Victoria.

Todd Manning later bought Dorian Cramer Lord's newspaper and turned it into The Sun, for which he was the editor.
