Longfield is a village in the Dartford borough of Kent. It is located ten miles south east of Dartford and near to Gravesend.
The town is served by Longfield railway station which is operated by Southeastern (train operating company) with services to London and the Medway Towns. The village also has a fairly large shopping area.
Longfield is part of Longfield and New Barn Parish. Longfield is the ancient village, situated on the road between Dartford and Meopham. The historic church is dedicated to St Mary Magdalene. The other settlements within the parish are Longfield Hill, nearer to Meopham; and the modern developments of Hartley and New Barn. Both Hartley and New Barn are larger in population than Longfield, although neither has much in the way of services, being purely residential locations.
There are four pubs in or within a short journey of Longfield, The Long Valley Club ), the Railway Tavern, the Hartley Country Club and The Wheatsheaf (one of the first pubs in Kent to ban smoking).
The Local Government Act 1972 made the village part of the Sevenoaks of Kent in 1974. It was transferred to the borough of Dartford in 1987. [1]
Dr Howard Stoate (Labour) has been the MP since 1997.
