Loop (ループ Rūpu?) is the third in the series of Ring Novels by Koji Suzuki.
The story involves a massive computer simulation known as the Loop, and commissioned to simulate the emergence and evolution of life, in which eventuated what the first two Ring novels narrate. It follows the life of Kaoru Futami in his childhood and into his adult life when the deadly Metastatic Human Cancer (MHC), a virulent virus that causes cancers in people, animals and even plants, is becoming a global epidemic. Motivated to find a cure to this virus that his father has, Kaoru eventually comes to learn about the Loop project that his father had worked on, and its connection with the MHC virus.
The computer simulation of the Loop has been compared to one from the 1999 film The Matrix and has even been wrongly accused of being a rip-off of such, yet it was in fact published in 1998, more than a year before the release of The Matrix.
