Lu Su (鲁肃), styled Zijing(子敬), was an advisor for the kingdom of Wu during the Three Kingdoms period of ancient China, having taken over the position from Zhou Yu. During the Battle of Chi Bi, Lu Su served as a close advisor to Zhou Yu and a liaison with Liu Bei's forces.
Upon Zhou Yu's death, Lu Su was put in charge of Sun Quan's armies and was head advisor until his own death. He was succeeded by Lu Meng. Lu Su felt that it would be beneficial for Wu to maintain diplomatic relations with the neighboring kingdom of Shu. Zhou Yu considered Zhuge Liang an immense threat and was eager to get rid of him whenever he had the chance. However, Lu Su greatly respected Zhuge Liang and helped deliver Zhuge Liang from danger a few times. An example was when Zhuge Liang took up an offer to produce 100,000 arrows for the Wu army and if he failed, he would be punished by military law. Lu Su helped Zhuge Liang by preparing the boats and troops for Zhuge Liang and they managed to obtain more than 100,000 arrows from Cao Cao's camp.
By nature, Lu Su was an honest man, and was tricked several times by other people. Once, Sun Quan sent him as an envoy to Liu Bei to get back Jingzhou, but Lu fell for Zhuge Liang's tricks several times and he agreed to allow Liu Bei to delay the return of Jingzhou. Later, forced under circumstances, Lu Su invited Guan Yu to a banquet, and had his men in ambush nearby, who would spring out and kill Guan Yu when Lu gave the signal. However, Guan Yu managed to escape unharmed.
