Lynn Patrick

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Joseph Lynn Patrick (February 3, 1912 in Victoria, British Columbia - January 26, 1980) was a Canadian professional ice hockey center who played for the New York Rangers in the National Hockey League.

Lynn was an important member of the two Stanley Cup titles the Rangers won in 1933 and 1940. He was married to film actress Dorothy Patrick. After his playing career, he went on to be the general manager of the Boston Bruins and St. Louis Blues. It was he who introduced Scotty Bowman to coaching. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1980. He is the son of NHL Hall of Famer, Lester Patrick, brother of Muzz Patrick and the father of Craig Patrick, Pittsburgh Penguins General Manager, who served in that capacity from 1989 until 2006.

He was on his way home from a dull game between the Colorado Rockies and the St.Louis Blues at the St.Louis Arena to walk the dog his daughter had given him, when he suffered a heart attack, and his car crashed into a fire hydrant. He died that night.
