M. M. Lakhera

Lieutenant General Madan Mohan Lakhera (born 1937) is the present governor of the Indian state of Mizoram. He has held that position since July 2006. Previously, he was the governor of the Union Territory of Pondicherry, India from 2004 to 2006. The first file he signed after assuming charge in Pondicherry was on implementing the Rs. 5.5-crore free rice scheme to cover families under the poverty line and to acquire land for distribution of sites to landless people. He had told the press that he would endeavour to make Pondicherry a model state of India. Lakhera also served as acting governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands from February 2006 to December 2006.
