Maalaala Mo Kaya (Will You Remember? / Remembering*) is the longest-running, top-rating drama anthology/documentary program in the Philippines, aired on ABS-CBN beginning in 1991. Hosted by ABS-CBN's VP for Entertainment Charo Santos-Concio, "Maalaala Mo Kaya" features inspirational stories of ordinary people. Its name originates from a popular ballad song in the Philippines.
Charo Santos-Concio’s love affair with television started in her teenage days when she and her sister, Malou Santos, both movie buffs, would watch movies of Nora Aunor and Tirso Cruz III. She has established herself as an award-winning dramatic actress, starting with her haunting performance in the 1976 Asian Film Festival Mike de Leon entry Itim where she won Best Actress. She also got the critics’ nod for Lino Brocka’s Gumapang Ka Sa Lusak where she also bagged another acting trophy for Best Supporting Actress. She reunited with Mike de Leon in Kisapmata and got rave reviews from discriminating critics of the 1981 Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes. Then while working for Vanguard Films, she was invited to join the newly-opened ABS CBN.
Ms. Santos-Concio has been credited in creating the station's top-rated programs and even Star Cinema’s box-office successes. She put together the station’s top-rating programs like Esperanza and Pangako sa 'Yo and her film background proved handy in producing Star Cinema’s box-office hits like Anak and Dekada 70. She is also the brains behind the most successful and longest-running TV drama anthology program Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK), which she hosts.
Today, Santos-Cancio is responsible for total channel programming, on-air operations, and the overall revenue and profit delivery of Channel 2, which is the flagship of ABS-CBN. She continually does what she is best at, which is creating quality television shows that tug at the heartstrings of the Filipino viewers.
