Maasin is home to a shrine to the Virgin Mary. Formally, Our Lady of the Assumption, residents commonly call it the Mother Mary Shrine. Located atop a hill adjacent to the small coastal plane occupied by the city, the shrine is visible for many miles. Access is exclusively by means of a long stairway up the side of the hill.
