Macy's North

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Macy's North, with its flagship store on Chicago's State Street, is a department store division of Federated Department Stores headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The division was created February 1, 2006 from the Marshall Field's operation Federated had acquired with its purchase of May Department Stores on August 30, 2005. An additional minor realignment of store operations with Macy's Midwest and Macy's West occurred July 30, 2006. On September 9, 2006, the legendary Marshall Field's moniker was phased out in favor of the Macy's nameplate as part of national rebranding of the former May Company department stores.

The present Macy's North incorporates the historic department store company Marshall Field's, which previously had integrated Dayton's and Hudson's. Additionally, one former L.S. Ayres store in Hobart, Indiana, is among the current Macy's North division.

In Chicago, Macy's move into the Marshall Field's building on State Street upset many residents.[1] While some have protested, many once loyal shoppers are simply shopping elsewhere.[2] Macy's reported in December 2006 slowed sales in stores that once were Marshall Field's..[3]
