Magius is a fictional character in the Dragonlance series of books and gaming material.
Magius, a mage who went through the four kind of wizards in Krynn (Renegade, red-robed, white-robed and black-robed ), was a friend of Huma Dragonbane and the original owner of the Staff of Magius, which was later given to Raistlin Majere.
He fought alongside Huma during the Third Dragon War -- and constantly argued with Kaz the Minotaur — although the partnership between a knight of Solamnia and wizards of High Sorcery, especially those not wearing white robes, was rejected by the Knighthood.
Magius was kidnapped by Galan Dracos while protecting with Huma the first dragonlances, and after he had exhausted all his available spells. He was tortured and returned to Huma with wounds that ultimately caused his death.
After the defeat of Takhisis, two different versions found in books describe how the wizards were allowed to carry daggers as final protection once the mage has exhausted his magical means:
- Huma allowed them to carry daggers with the shape of the original dragonlances in Magius' memory.
- The Conclave allowed wizards to carry them, as they realized a wizard may need to protect themselves without magic.
While the Knights of Solamnia consider Huma the greatest hero of the war, the Wizards of High Sorcery made Magius the hero and Huma a nice chap, all brawn and heart, relying on Magius to shape the course of the battle.[1]
