Malegaon is a city in the Nashik district of the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is located at 20°33'N, 74°32'E, some 280 km northeast of state capital Mumbai. Malegaon lies at the confluence of Girna and Mosam rivers.
Malegaon, one of the largest cities in northwest Maharashtra, is a major textile producing centre and is famous for its power-looms. It is located on the Mumbai-Agra national highway (N.H.03). Nearly three-quarters of Malegaon's 700,000 people belong to India's minority Muslim community. It has a history of communal violence and the town is divided by a river Mosam separating the two communities. The ciy has a 75% Muslim population as well as a Muslim medical college and a madrasa for girls. It also has famous Maharaja sayajirao Gaekwad college of science, commerce & arts, and Malegaon High School and Junior College.

On 8 September 2006, at least 37 people, mostly Muslims, died and at least 125 were seriously injured when three bomb blasts hit a Muslim cemetery in Malegaon town. The blasts were timed to match with the surge of people leaving mosque after special Friday prayers for the Shab e Bara'at holy day. A curfew was imposed to prevent trouble in the town.
The people at Malegaon are very innocent. Most of them are illitrate. The ignorance from government in last 60 years has resulted into very poor, unhealthy condition at Malegaon. The 90% of the people in Malegaon depends upon power looms. However, the government provides electricity only for 60% of the time. This has resulted in a great poority. This is the only city in the entire INDIA which has population exceeding 7,00,000 and does not have a Government Hospital. It does not have a railway station as well. The coomon belief is that goverment is ignoring this city for development because majority of the people are Muslims(read Aliens).
One of the happening place in central Maharashtra. Though a small place, it has got great history with it. It's famous for a holy place of Shri Bapuji Maharaj, who was a saint.
