The Man O' War Stakes is a race for thoroughbred horses of either gender aged three-years-old and up. A Grade I event, the Man O' War is in its 49th renewal in 2007. It's run on the second Saturday in September at Belmont Park which makes it a major prep to the Breeders' Cup Turf. Run at one and three-eighths mile on the grass, it offers a purse of $500,000.

It's named for the great Man O' War, considered by virtually all horse people to be the best horse America produced for the whole of the Twentieth Century.

The Man O' War was won in 1973 by another legendary horse, Secertariat, and in 1970 by Fort Marcy.
