Manheim Auctions

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Manheim Automotive Services is the market leader of used vehicle services and marketplaces, operating more that 135 dealer auctions. As a subsidiary of Cox Enterprises, Inc., Manheim provides services such as financing, title work, transportation, recovery, auto body repair, dealership management systems and dent repair. Manheim is also the leader in remarketing technology, using its online tools to connect buyers and sellers around the globe.

Cox entered the auto auction business in 1968 by purchasing its namesake company, the Manheim Auto Auction, in Manheim, PA. Manheim is now the highest volume operator of wholesale auto auctions in the world with 135 locations in North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. In addition, Cox Enterprises owns Cox Auto Trader, one of the world’s leading providers of online and print automotive consumer information.

The FTC brought suit against them for anticompetitive practices in 2000, and forced them to divest nine vehicle auctions to the closest competitor, Adesa Inc.
