Karan Dev Singh (Aamir Khan), a Casanova neck deep in debt, agrees to marry the daughter Anita (Deepti Bhatnagar) of a rich tycoon Singhania (Dalip Tahil). Dev meets Priya (Manisha Koirala) and promptly decides to add her to his list of conquests.

Priya, however, refuses to fall prey to his considerable charms and they decide to become friends. Indebted to Raj (Anil Kapoor), she is to marry him. The cruise reaches Bombay harbor and they decide not to meet each other until Valentine’s Day. Dev breaks away from Anita but it is not so easy for Priya. On the day of the rendezvous, Priya fails to turn up.

  • Aishwarya Rai was offered the lead role of Priya. Interestingly, her movie Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam released at the same time and became an unexpected hit.
  • The movie borrows plot elements from the Hollywood classic An Affair to Remember.
  • One of the film's songs, Tinak Tin Tana, created controversy because the melody was taken from Malaysian singer Iwan's song Yang Sedang-Sedang Saja. Iwan sued Sanjeev-Darshan, the film's music director, for plagiarism and won the case.
