Marc Maron

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Marc Maron (b. 27 September 1963) is a stand up comic, writer and cultural critic. He has been a frequent guest on the Late Show with David Letterman and Late Night with Conan O'Brien, and he was a regular guest on Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn. He has also appeared in his own specials on HBO and Comedy Central, as well as on comedy showcases such as the Cam Neely Foundation fundraiser, which featured such acts as Jon Stewart, Denis Leary, and Steven Wright. His one-man show, Jerusalem Syndrome, had an extended off-Broadway run in 2000 and was released in book form in 2001. Maron frequently appeared in the live alternative standup series he'd organized with Janeane Garofalo called "Eating It," which used the rock bar Luna Lounge in New York's Lower East Side as its venue until the building was razed in 2005.

Maron co-hosted the progressive talk radio network Air America Radio's three-hour AM radio show Morning Sedition with Mark Riley. It became well known that his contract would not be renewed as of December 1, 2005 due to problems with then Air America executive Danny Goldberg. Goldberg reportedly did not "get" or agree with the comedy Maron and other writers (Jim Earl and Kent Jones) brought to the morning-drive time show. Removal of Maron constituted the dissassembling of Morning Sedition causing many fans to circulate online petitions to the management of Air America Radio.

On Monday, November 28, 2005, it was officially announced that Maron's contract had indeed not been renewed. His last show and the previous incarnation of Morning Sedition was on December 16, 2005.

On February 28, 2006, Maron began hosting an evening radio program for KTLK Progressive Talk 1150AM in Los Angeles called The Marc Maron Show from 10:00PM PST until midnight PST. The program was never nationally syndicated by Air America despite reported contractual clauses promising so.

On July 5, 2006, it was announced that The Marc Maron Show's final show would air Friday July 14, 2006. A few days from the final show, Maron honestly and bluntly discussed and disclosed his long and likely final struggle with Air America Radio's executives.

Marc Maron guest hosted Air America Radio's Springer on the Radio on November 6, 2006 and The Sam Seder Show on December 1, 2006. Maron also guest hosted The Sam Seder Show for the entire week of December 18th-22nd, 2006. He has a regular guest appearance on the Sam Seder show on the 3rd hour on Fridays (occasionally missed due to travel).

On February 13, 2007, Maron was a guest on Late Night With Conan O'Brien. Recently, Marc Maron announced on his Myspace page that he would be guest-hosting on Air America Radio Thursday, February 15, 2007 and Friday, February 16, 2007 from 12 PM Eastern to 3 PM Eastern. [1]
