The Marine City Mariners won the 2007 Division 4 State Championship under the leadership of quarterback Brendon Kay, and a stout defense. They were coached by Coach of the Year Candidate Tony Scarcelli, who also won one as a player for Warren Woods in 1978. This team will be remembered for many decades. Their run for the State Championship started with a thromping of Richmond in the first round of the playoffs. Their second round game against Flint Powers Catholic was one for the ages as the Mariners came back from a 28-7 halftime deficit to win 38-28. Alma was up next for the Mariners, and again behind the great arm of Brendon Kay they were able to pull out the win. The Semifinal Matchup had a littler controversy as an early 4th quarter pass was ruled a touchdown, but the receiver may have not had control. The Mariners Pulled out the 35-21 victory over the Kingsford Flivvers though. Ford Field was full of orange as the Mariner faithful showed up strong, numbers indicated 8,000 strong Mariner fans. The Mariners faced the number 1 back in the state in Jonas Gray, and the Detroit Country Day Yellow Jackets. They held Gray in check, and went back to some old Mariner roots in bringing out the Wing-T attack, and swarming defense. Jonas Gray finally saw the endszone to make it 14-7. The Mariners answered back though with their own star the #1 quarterback in the state. The Mariners got 2 passing Tds and 1 running td from Brendon Kay, and won 21-7 to bring home the State Championship, and cap off an amazing ending to a great story. .==External links==
