Mariner Calc is a lean alternative to other spreadsheets [1] available for the Mac platform. Originally built in the mid 90's as competing products seemed to get thicker and slower, software developer Bill Paar responded by building a spreadsheet that has all the features frequently used and left out many of the features that only are rarely used.

Originally released under the name "Mariner" by Mariner Software, later renamed Calc to distinguish it from the expanded product line, and to place it more directly in the product space it belongs for business applications. Calc can read and write in to tab-delimited files, and can also read Microsoft Excel files, and write a SYLK file for use in other products.
