East Marion, New York

East Marion is a hamlet in Suffolk County, New York, USA.
East Marion is in the Town of Southold. The population was 756 at the 2000 census.

East Marion was founded in 1646 and was formerly known as Oyster Pond Upper Neck and later Rocky Point.
East Marion is located at (41.128923, -72.341894)GR1.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 5.8 km² (2.2 mi²). 5.4 km² (2.1 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it (5.83%) is water.
As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 756 people, 329 households, and 222 families residing in the hamlet. The population density was 139.0/km² (360.6/mi²). There were 744 housing units at an average density of 136.8/km² (354.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the community was 95.24% White, 0.93% African American, 0.13% Native American, 0.93% Asian, 1.72% from other races, and 1.06% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.91% of the population.
There were 329 households out of which 22.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.9% were married couples living together, 8.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.5% were non-families. 28.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.30 and the average family size was 2.79.
In the community the population was spread out with 18.5% under the age of 18, 4.4% from 18 to 24, 20.6% from 25 to 44, 26.3% from 45 to 64, and 30.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 49 years. For every 100 females there were 96.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.1 males.
The median income for a household in the community was $44,583, and the median income for a family was $52,500. Males had a median income of $47,917 versus $31,250 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $24,373. About 4.7% of families and 5.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 4.7% of those under age 18 and 4.9% of those age 65 or over.
