Mark Grieb

Mark Grieb (born May 23, 1974, in Torrance, California) is an Arena Football League quarterback for the San Jose SaberCats. Grieb led the team to the ArenaBowl title in 2004.

Grieb attended Oak Grove High School in San Jose, California, and Grieb was a student and a three-sport star in football, basketball, and baseball.

Grieb attended UC Davis and was a letterman in football. In football, he left school as the top 10 in six different offensive categories. As a senior, he passed for a school-record 3,230 yards and 25 touchdowns, and garnered first team CoSIDA All-Region honors, was a Football Gazette All-American pick, and was a finalist for the Harlon Hill Award (which is given to the NCAA Division II college football MVP).

Grieb's pro career began with the Anaheim Piranhas of the AFL in 1997. Later that season he was traded to the Milwaukee Mustangs, and spent 1998 with the Scottish Claymores of NFL Europe before returning to Arena football with the SaberCats for the 1999 season, where he has remained with the exception of a brief spell in the XFL with the Las Vegas Outlaws. With the Sabercats, he has achieved 2 ArenaBowl appearances and wins in the 2002 and 2004 seasons. Although in the 2002 year, on his way to completing an AFL regular season record 13-1 year, Grieb was injured by the Arizona Rattlers, sustaining a season-ending broken collar bone. John Dutton, the backup quarterback at the time, took the reigns and continued the march to the ArenaBowl, winning it against the same Arizona Rattlers in Mark Grieb's honor. In 2004, Grieb was able to stay healthy and lead another excellent year to win the ArenaBowl against the Arizona Rattlers.

  • Passer Rating for one year: 133.5
  • Career Passer Rating: 124.2
