Athens Mass Transit System

The Mass Transit System of Athens, Greece is the largest mass transit system in all of Greece. It consists of:
- A bus network operated by ETHEL (Etaireia Thermikon Leoforeion/Thermal Bus Company)
- An electric trolleybus network operated by ILPAP (Ilektrokinita Leoforeia Periohis Athinon–Peiraios/Electric Buses of Athens–Piraeus)
- The Athens Metro system, consisting of three lines. Line one is operated by ISAP and lines two and three by AMEL (Attiko Metro Etaireia Leitourgias, Attiko Metro Operations Company)
- A part (lines between Piraeus and Aghios Stefanos) of the national railways operated by OSE
- A suburban rail system operated by Proastiakos
- The Athens Tram system operated by Tram S.A.
The ISAP, ILPAP and ETHEL companies belong to the public company OASA (Organismos Astikon Syngoinonion Athinon/Athens Urban Transport Organisation/Οργανισμός Αστικών Συγκοινωνιών Αθηνών in Greek) [1].
The AMEL and Tram companies belong to Attiko Metro (Αττικό Μετρό Α.Ε. in Greek), a company that is currently wholly owned by the Greek government. [2] [3]
Proastiakos S.A. belongs to OSE, which is also a public company. [4]
