Matthew Joseph Suhey (born July 7, 1958 in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania) is a former professional American football player, playing fullback/running back for ten seasons in the National Football League for the Chicago Bears. He won a Super Bowl as a member of the 1985 Chicago Bears and was named to the Pennsylvania Football All-Century Team.

Matt Suhey was lead blocker and great friend of the late Walter Payton, arguably one of the best NFL players ever. He is also a close friend of the Payton family, and the executor of the Payton estate since the passing of Walter. Although Suhey was never a leader in any statistical category, he was a fan favorite for his personality and blocking abliity. - Source: HBO Inside The NFL.

Many sports reporters continue to take delight in transposing the names of Matt Suhey and baseball player Hideki Matsui. Perhaps most notable was a November 2003 satirical headline proclaiming "Matt Suhey Named American League Rookie of the Year."[1]
