The movie was the answer to the classic movie Thin Man, where it centered around San Francisco Police Commissioner Stewart McMillan (Rock Hudson) and his ridiculous crime partner and straightman, Sgt. Charles Enright (John Schuck), who were both caught up in the middle of a questionable beginning when McMillan's young and attractive wife Sally (Susan St. James) struggled unto a know-it-all evidence or a murder scene. Both Stewart & Sally were the perfect combination of the 1970s, where the couple both attend groovy parties and doing charity benefits prior to solving robberies, murders, among many others. While Schuck was adding more humor, Stewart's & Sally's maid Mildred (Nancy Walker) was open-minded. Walker had limited roles, before becoming a series regular in later seasons.
Like the other shows in the Mystery Movie, McMillan and Wife was an immediate hit. It appears regularly in the form of syndicated reruns on local and cable American television.
Universal Home Video has released the first Season of McMillan and Wife on DVD in Region 1 for the very first time.
