Roses are given as gifts on various occasions. The occasions include birthday, Valentine's Day, and graduation. It is possible to convey different ideas and feelings using roses of different colors. The number of flowers in the bunch that is presented also carries some meaning. How these conventionally accepted notions may have come into existence is an interesting question. To be sure, many of these are not universal and they vary from culture to culture and individual to individual. Yet, there seems to be some agreement on many of these ideas. For example, red rose seems to universally symbolize passion and love.

  • Pink: grace
  • Dark Pink: gratitude
  • Light Pink: admiration, sympathy
  • White: innocence, purity, secrecy , reverence and humility.
  • Yellow: Dying and decay
  • Orange: passion
  • Burgundy: beauty
  • Blue: mystery
