From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mearns Castle High School is a secondary school in Newton Mearns, a suburb of Glasgow, Scotland. The school is situated on Waterfoot Road. Newton Mearns is an affluent commuter suburb, and consequently the school achieves consistently high marks in school performance tables.

The current head teacher is Mr Alan McGinlay who prides his school on its high standard of proper uniforms. The school has recently received a new extension. The extension of the school is part of a Public Private Partnership Project with builders HBG.

Mearns Castle is situated next to Maxwell Mearns Church, which hosts the numerous services for all yeargroups throughout the year. It is also positioned next to Mearns Castle, hence the name, "Mearns Castle High School".

The School Captains for the 2006-2007 session are Alexander "Sandy" Thomson and Anna Kordeczka. Both these pupils belong to S6, presided over by Mrs Joan Herald.

Mearns Castle places emphasis on social responsibility and organises "Charities Week" during which entertaining events take place in order to raise money for charities chosen by the pupils. The highlight of the week is the lunchtime talent shows, where pupils form bands or dancing groups and perform for others.
