The Medal of Valor is a type of medal given to honor military or public safety personnel who have served with gallantry. The Medal of Valor may refer to the:

  • Maryland Medal for Valor, awarded to members of the Maryland National Guard in recognition of acts of personal heroism.
  • Medal for Valor, the highest military medal that could be awarded to a soldier of the Soviet Union for bravery on the field of battle. It was retained by the Russian Federation after the demise of the USSR.
  • Medal of Valor, an Israeli Military decoration, instituted by the Law of Decorations in the Israel Defense Forces of 1970.
  • New York City Police Department Medal for Valor, conferred upon NYC police officers for acts of outstanding personal bravery.
  • New York State Medal of Valor, conferred upon members of the state military forces by the Governor of New York for acts of personal heroism. [1]
  • Philippine Medal of Valor, the highest military award given by the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
  • Public Safety Officer Medal of Valor, awarded to American police officers, firefighters and other emergency services personnel by the U.S. Department of Justice.
  • Texas Medal of Valor, awarded to members of the state military forces by the Governor of Texas for acts of personal heroism.
  • Texas Department of Public Safety Medal of Valor, the Commissioners' Medal of Valor is the highest honor bestowed by the Texas Department of Public Safety. It is awarded to Texas Rangers and other officers who have displayed conspicuous gallantry, courage and heroism at considerable risk to their own lives. [2]
  • 9/11 Heroes Medal of Valor, awarded by the government of the United States, created specifically to honor the 442 public safety officers who were killed in the line of duty during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center and The Pentagon.
