Michelle of Valois

Michèle de Valois (January 11, 1395–July 8, 1422) was a daughter of Charles VI of France and Isabella of Bavaria-Ingolstadt. In June, 1409 she married Philip III, Duke of Burgundy. Michelle became melancholic in 1419 following the involvement of her brother in the murder of her father-in-law, John the Fearless. Michelle died in Ghent in 1422 while her husband was away preparing for the battle of Cone. Michelle fell ill at Ghent and died 1422. All of the inhabitants were in greiving as she was much loved by the people. Michelle was interred in the monastery of St Bavon near Ghent.
After her death it was believed her death had been brought on by poisoning by a lady attendant from Germany Ourse de la Viefville. This lady had been a close confidante of the Princess, however had been dismissed to Aire just before Michelle's death. The lady was never charged.
