Day 6

Mike Doyle is a fictional character played by Ricky Schroder, on the FOX television show 24. He serves as the new Director of Field Operations in the Los Angeles Counter Terrorist Unit after the death of Curtis Manning.

Mike Doyle is portrayed as ruthless but also competent as said by Milo. He tends to exceed the scope of his authority as can be seen by the way he barks orders at the techies, who are Milo Pressman's subordinates and part of a separate department to Field Ops. He also has a short temper as can be seen when he grabs Morris O'Brian by the throat when he makes a snappish comment.

Ricky Schroder says that Mike Doyle is "consumed" by his job and protecting the country. "Everything else in (his) life has been put on hold. He has no personal life. He's ruthless. It doesn't matter who he hurts. It's just a means to an end."[1] He cares more about his work than personal relationships. Mike and Milo clashed while working at CTU Denver, but despite this, Mike alters his co-worker's computer records to remove evidence that Milo compromised system security by giving red-flagged Nadia his clearance code so that she could continue her work at her usual efficiency rate.

It was also hinted at that Mike had a troubled life when he quoted a line from the Qu'ran, and mentioned to Nadia that he also read "the Bible, the Upanishads...anything [he] could get [his] hands on."

Initially introduced as an abusive and rigid agent, Doyle changes to a more likable character throughout the season, due to his willingness to break from his own "By the book" attitude, to do what's considered to be right by the moral standards of the majority. Such examples are when Jack's in custody and Doyle uncuffs Jack, in order to have Jack restrain Doyle (so Jack could talk the doctor out of shock therapy that would have risked the life of Audrey Raines) and defying the orders of CTU Provisional head, Nadia Yassir, in stating that "No matter what it takes, as soon as possible, he'll get Josh Bauer back."

Milo Pressman and Mike Doyle had been at odds with each other when they worked at CTU Denver. Mike Doyle became part of the romantic tensions between Milo Pressman and Nadia Yassir as he accuses both of them of "itching to sleep" with each other. Nadia's view of Doyle swerves from Milo's. As a result of Nadia's realization, Mike Doyle himself is placed into the romantic foray when it is revealed Nadia has emerging feelings for Mike. Milo is aware that Nadia has some affection for Mike.

In the last episode of Season 6, Doyle is injured by a small bomb which explodes in his face during a mission to retrieve the FB sub-circuit board. Doyle is expected to survive although he may be blinded in at least one, if not both, eyes.
