From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Template:Thai Armed Forces The Royal Thai Military (กองทัพไทย) is the name of the military of Thailand. It has four main branches, the Royal Thai Army, Royal Thai Navy (includes Royal Thai Marine Corps), Royal Thai Air Force, in addition to Paramilitary Forces. The minimum age to join the military is 18 and you must be at least 21 to be forcibly recruited, but when this happens, you may have been signed up at the age of 18. In total as of 2004, there are 17,944,151 men in Thailand age 15-49, 10,735,354 of whom could potentially fight in a war. As of 2004, 531,511 males reach military age annually. In 2000, Thailand spent $1.775 billion (in United States dollars) on its military, constituting, in 2003, 1.8% of GDP. Under the 1997 constitution military service is a duty for all male citizens and at 21 those who have not undergone reserve training are subject to a draft. Volunteers are subject to six months service while those chosen at random are subject to twenty-four months full-time service.
