From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Millicent Mary Lillian Martin (born 8 June 1934) in Romford, Essex is an English actress, singer and comedienne.

During the early 1960s, Martin became well-known to television audiences as the resident singer of topical songs on the weekly satire show That Was The Week That Was. She also appeared in the 1966 film Alfie.

She had her own television series on the BBC between 1964 and 1966 titled Mainly Millicent the first two seasons, which was shortened to Millicent for the third and final season.

She was married to pop singer Ronnie Carroll and then actor Norman Eshley, but both of these marriages ended in divorce. She has been married to Marc Alexander (from the USA) since 1978. She is a permanent resident of the USA.

In London's West End, Martin starred opposite Jim Dale in The Card in 1975.

She is also known for playing Gladys Moon in 13 fifty-minute episodes of Moon And Son, a BBC television detective series created by Robert Banks Stewart and broadcast in 1992. John Michie played her son. Only one series was made.

In recent years, Martin has become a familiar face on television once again, playing the part of another Moon, this time Gertrude Moon, Daphne Moon's Mancunian mother, on the American hit sitcom Frasier. She has also done some work for Disney Channel, starring in the show The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, and in the Disney Channel Original Movie, Return to Halloweentown.

She has also appeared on The Drew Carey Show and Will & Grace and on Days of Our Lives as "Miss Lili Faversham".
